Remembering Killebrew

Before I begin writing this blog post I need clarify the following: the text you are about to read below is not, I repeat NOT, about selling tickets or anything like that. This post is much more important than that. This post is being made to inform those that feel inclined to pay tribute to the late great Harmon Killebrew. Now then onto to the post.

For those who wish to attend, this Thursday at 7:10 pm at Target, The Harmon Killebrew Tribute will take place. According to the Twins website the event is free and open to the public. Meaning those that wish to attend may do so.

Twins Broadcasters Dick Bremer and John Gordon will emcee the event. Speakers who are scheduled to speak at the tribute include MLB Commissioner Alan H. "Bud" Selig, National Baseball Hall of Famers Rod Carew and Paul Molitor, Twins legends Jim Kaat and Tony Oliva, and current Twins Michael Cuddyer and Justin Morneau.
The event will also include musical and video tributes in celebration of Killebrew's life.

Gates will open at 6 p.m. and seating will be general admission. Ballpark concessions will be open, and attendees will receive a commemorative program. Fans can come early to check out Killebrew's National Baseball Hall of Fame plaque. It will be on display from noon to 6:30 p.m. on Target plaza near the Killebrew statue.

In lieu of flowers Killebrew's family is requesting that fans donate to the Harmon Killebrew Family Memorial Fund; Wells Fargo Acct#3471335038; c/o Minnesota Twins; 1 Twins Way; Minneapolis, MN 55403.

Target Field named The Sports Facility of the Year

Below is a really boring re-print from the press release I almost fell asleep reading:

Target Field has been named The Sports Facility of the Year by Street & Smith's Sports Business Journal and Sports Business Daily. The award was announced at the 2011 Sports Business Awards Ceremony. The Sports Facility of the Year Award is given to new, renovated or established sports facilities in North America whose primary function is hosting and staging sporting events.

My response?

You betcha Minnesota has the nicest Sports Facility in America!

Have you seen the place? It is unbelievable!

Thank you to those that worked on creating Target, you deserve the award!

Target field fielding weather calls

As reported by the Star Tribune, the Minnesota Twins are currently reviewing how to let fans about severe weather following Tuesday’s stormy debacle.

At the moment the current plan calls for scoreboard and public address announcements to be triggered when weather calls for fans to move to a safer location.

However, where in the world do you put 40,000 baseball fans?

For now the plan is to move everyone to the service levels in Target Field as well as the first and third base lounges, and if need be, even stairwells.

What do you think of current Music Dilemma at Target Field?

With new program director Dan Edwards behind the music that goes into your ear drums at Target field, many humans over the age of 40 have complained about the lack of baseball themed tunes and the increased amount of auto-tuned dance club tunes that have been played over the speakers. My dad and I have taken notice also.

Both of us agree that Edwards, who is also the assistant program director for the radio station and Pohlad owned 96.3, is playing far too many tunes that 14 year old girls like and not enough tunes the predominate Twins ticket buyer, a 30+ year old male likes.

My dad doesn’t have a problem with the walk up music for players, as he says, “whatever they need to be pumped and ready is fine by me.”

And I agree.

However besides the music the players choose, the music should be local acts or baseball themed tunes.

If you want some hip-hop play some Atmosphere

Want pop? Play Owl city

Want rock play The Hold Steady or anything by Craig Finn.

Twins fans are sick of this top 40 bubblegum crap.

Study Proposes Vikings Stadium Near Target Field

>According to the Star Tribune:

"A real estate investor says putting a Minnesota Vikings stadium near popular Target Field and the Minneapolis Farmers Market would make a "sports and entertainment corridor" that would take advantage of the area's ample parking, transit and nearby eateries and watering holes."

I think that would be really cool to have a football stadium near Target Field and it would make that part of downtown the mecca of Minneapolis. Stay tuned.
